Hot off the press! Garmin prepares to jump into the phone biz..

garmin_nuvi_phone.jpg

Today in a surprise announcement in New York City, Garmin announced the nuvifone, a full-fledged GSM HSDPA smartphone built on its own operating system with GPS navigation at its core—but e-mail and web browsing close to its heart, and a camera built in too. No pricing or carrier announcement has been made yet. Think 3rd quarter 2008 I’d say.

You saw it here first…

Hot off the press! CarAdvice: VE diesel confirmed!

Finally, a V6 turbo diesel is scheduled for an Aussie built family car. The VE Commodore has today been confirmed as the first to receive the diesel treatment within the next 18 months.

The engine, developed jointly with VM Motori in Italy will see life in all manner of GM products from Opel, through Holden, and even in to Hummer’s H3 (about time) though is not expected to appear in VE until early 2009.

Dubbed V6 VMM, the diesel will share the lime light with a bigger version (mainly squared at GMC trucks) which boasts 4.5 litre capacity and producing 700Nm.

There is at this stage no word on capacity and spec of the VE’s diesel, but we here at Joshinthecity have heard whispers of 2.7L and 500nm, rest assured, we’ll keep you posted.

2008 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG preview

When you think of Mercedes-Benz, cheap isn’t exactly a word that comes to mind, but when you look at the sticker price for the all-new 2008 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG, the words cheap, bargain and steal are hard to ignore.

The car that tops the C-class range will land in Mercedes dealerships all over the country in March, and the best bit? It will start from only $139,500 Australian Pesos. That’s $17,500 less than the new BMW M3 and a massive $25,000 cheaper than the aging Audi RS4.

Queensland police say that it’s more comfortable than local competitive offerings, yet has the same sort of punch that the V8 powered pursuit cars are reknown for. Once the officers had adapted to the Aurion’s tendency to power understeer, they say that they’re overjoyed with the new car. ql_police_trdaurion01thumbnail.jpg
